It was the four in a bar driving beat in Roy Orbison’s ‘Pretty Woman’ that started Mike learning drums at the age of twelve. His first job was at Premier Drums, building drum kits from start to finish. After six months he played his first professional gig with the Top Rank organisation. This also turned out to be his last as it lasted nearly fifteen years. The pressure and monotony of playing for five or six nights a week was putting a strain on his marriage so he quit the pro scene. Mike’s drum kit went into the loft for a further fifteen years.
